We eat a lot of great food, spend more time with friend and family, shop ‘til we drop, and it’s time to reflect on all of the good things that have happened in the last year. It’s also time to plan ahead and think about the projects we want to finish in the year ahead. For a lot of us, that includes landscaping projects.

Resources for Landscaping Ideas and Inspiration

Pinterest is a huge collection of users’ favorite images that are collected on various boards. Think of it as an online vision board – all of your favorite images in one place. Pinterest’s users tend to gravitate toward home décor and home projects, so you’ll find plenty of inspiration there. You do have to sign up for a free account.

A couple of websites that offer ideas and include Better Homes and Gardens and HGTV. For ideas geared towards the Pacific Northwest, visit Sunset Magazine.

Another option is to take a walk or a drive around your neighborhood. Look at what your neighbors have done in their yards. What do you like and not like about them?

One you have your ideas for yard, it’s time to start designing.

To help you solve any potential challenges such as noise reduction or navigating landscaping on a hillside, visit Landscaping Network. The website offers videos, tips and ideas to take on any potential challenge.

BHG.com has an interactive tool that allows you to design a small area or your entire yard. You can drag and drop 150 types of trees, shrubs and flowers to give you an idea as to how features will look.

One favorite we came across was Garden Visit. If you really want to geek out, this website is perfect for you. It is based in the United Kingdom, and it is geared more towards landscape architects. The reason why we liked this so much is that there is a focus on the history and theory of landscape architecture and garden design. It’s a very informative website.

There’s an app for that

Did you know that you can design projects using your tablet or smartphone? In a previous blog post, we reviewed a handful of our favorite apps that will help you come up with ideas. There are apps that helps you visualize certain features – including hardscapes – will look in your yard before you even break ground.
